This week's #WeCareWednesday feature is actress Essence Atkins. Now personally, Essence Atkins best body of work was playing "Little Dee Dee" on the 2000's show "Half and Half". For that role she was a smart beautiful, but kind of self centered spoiled rich woman. She was fabulous and self absorbed but lovable in every way but this past week Essence the actual person may have trumped her beloved character in terms of likability.

Recently she made headlines by washing the feet of a woman while on the promotional trail for her new play "Things Your Man Won't Do". When the released the video went viral because that's not something you see everyday, but she wasn't washing her feet for the reason you may think.

Essence went on to explain that washing the woman's feet, who was later identified as Allison Pecola Person, was an act of solidarity. Essence explained "This wasn't planned for me to do this. Sisters it's important that we love on each other. I know I just met you today but I know The road you walk." She also went on to say, "I want you to know that you're beautiful, and I want you to know that I got you, that I support you and I love you. And if we don't give that to each other y'all we are lost. We will never be what we can be."
After she explained her reasoning for actions she likened her actions to scripture from John 13:14 " I get down here on my knees, the way Jesus got down and I give to you, and I say to you thank you. Thank you for your strength, for your beauty, for your tenacity, for your integrity, for your intelligence, for your kindness, thank you"
Acts of kindness like this are rare from someone so well renown and it's refreshing to see such an act o solidarity. That's why Essence Atkins is my choice for We Care Wednesday!
