Vernon Gordon III is Lead Pastor of The Life Church and UniqueWalk non-profit
How did you determine your passion?
I found passion through experience. As a former cancer patient I found difficulty. But what resonated with me more, was the ability to share my story to bring hope to others. I realized that there was nothing more important in life than impacting others with my story.
What challenges have you had to overcome?
The greatest two challenges I've had to overcome were insecurity and identity. Insecurity always prompted me to ask the question, "Am I really good enough to do this?", but the even greater challenge was
realizing that I wasn't going to do it like everyone else. Pastoring is kind of "pre-packaged", this is how you look, talk, and act, but I knew I did fit that box and once I found my identity I found true
passion and purpose.
How do you stay focused?
Focus for me is a combination of fear and faith. I like feeling afraid, because it reminds me to stay humble and assures me that I'm headed in the right direction. No great thing has ever been accomplished without fear and faith working together in my opinion. Most people tell you don't be afraid, I tell people pursue what scares you! That keeps me going, fear of "What if...", What if I don't even try, what would I miss out on in life.
