Tim Arrington is an American fashion designer, who has designed for prominent personalities like Richard Smallwood, Derek Blanks, and Johnathan Slocoumb.
How did you determine your passion?
I realized my passion was for fashion design at a young age when the family income was always never enough. So I began making my own school and church clothes, to avoid wearing repeats all of the time. Only to realize later in life (after much practice of course), that it was a gift that people admired and would eventually want to pay for. That feeling that comes from having an idea in my head and seeing it actually come to life is priceless.
What challenges have you had to overcome?
Some of the challenges I had to overcome were feeling like I wasn't good enough as a person or as a designer, the fear of not knowing, and being judged for it. I had to overcome the fear of being taken advantage of, I had to learn how to honor myself by staying true to who I am, what I do and what I want. I've learned to put pride aside and ask for help when needed. I had to overcome being insecure and feeling worthless. I had to overcome hiding my talent because it wasn't considered a "masculine" career choice.
How do you stay focused?
How I stay focused and productive is by constantly praying and making sure my creative tunnel isn't clogged. Also making sure I am remaining true to who I am as a designer. By not getting distracted by what others are doing. Trusting my own gift, and realizing that I have something that someone needs. Stay far away from negativity or anything that will distract me from being my authentic creative self. Trusting that what is meant for me is what I will have when the time is right for me.
