Sylvia Smith is the owner of Pro Makeup Artist Studio. Her company offers eye lash application, air brush and hands on makeup applications for any occasion.
How did you determine what you were passionate about?
I knew at the age of 3 or 4 that I wanted to be a makeup artist. As a little girl, I would watch my mother apply her makeup, then I would get my barbies or cabbage patch dolls and try to recreate my mothers look by painting their faces with nail polish, ink pens, and markers.
What challenges have you overcome to pursue your dreams?
The challenges I overcame to pursue my dreams were proving to those that said "their wasn't a market in our area to sustain a makeup studio" Wrong! I've now been open in our downtown area for 5 years. As far as the entertainment industry, my challenge has always been the word "No!" and talent comparing me to who they felt was the best makeup artist they've ever experienced. I show up and give them 100% me. I give my talent, the love from my heart through my hands, professionalism, along with a laugh or two. I find it best to approach them with a genuine open mind and heart. With that, I get call backs quit often.
How do you stay focused and productive in your area of passion?
I stay focused in my profession by always having and setting goals. Everything I've ever written down, "Opening my studio, having my own lip gloss line (Seven), My own beauty blender line (Seven Beauty Blender), and I'm in the process of working on my own eye lash line ( Seven Mink Lashes, coming soon)." I write down my plans and work on executed them daily.
