How did you determine what you were passionate about?
One day soon after my father passed, I literally sat down and reflected on my entire life and contemplated my future. During this reflection I thought about the common thread in each of my successes and they all involved me helping people get better. Whether through leading teams in my previous corporate career, to now as a youth development program designer, assisting people in reaching their full potential is the way we can change the world--especially if we start with our youth. This is also what led me to write my book, Millionaire Manners, and design it as a guide for young men.
What challenges did you you have to overcome to pursue your dreams?
The largest single barrier to success is our mindset! It can either help you in your pursuit of greatness or it can poison you from the inside. Until we can control our thoughts and therefore our level of activity, including the difficulty of what we attempt, we will never reach our goals. The good news is that we can change it!
How do you keep yourself level headed and focused?
One of the most important ways I stay focused and productive is that I read as much as I possibly can; biographies, autobiographies and business books are my favorites. This keeps me in a winning mindset and also forces me to put down the technology! (Of course this can be productive and unproductive.) I also work from a to do list daily that feeds into my short, mid and long term goals. Without goals, specific, written goals, you can expect to make no long term progress. Lastly, you can't win without a team that's better than you in certain areas, and equally as passionate. A wise man once said, "if your dream just includes you, it's too small." Build yourself, build your team, hit goals!
