Movers & Shakers: Citylife, Beachbound, and More
WHASSUP DREAMERS?!!! HOW’S IT GROWIN? I know you guys are out there making it happen, and figuring things out along the way. Aren’t we all? I’m excited to publish my first blog here with you! If you catch on quick, you’ll see that I am one that is constantly on the move with crazy energy all the time. So it is an honor to give you a “snapshot” of the memory-filled weekend that I had with mi familia that visited from the dirty South! Now, while everyone was busy subconsciously promoting the VMA’s with over 435million Tweets chattering away – my priorities were totally elsewhere.... I was frantically preparing for the arrival of the most important people in my life. My Mother & baby sister! I had been prepping for about a month to make their time with me really special. From booking ocean front hotel suites on the shore, to gaining off-broadway tickets in NYC, to topping it all off with dinner on a
cruise ship two hours before their flight – a shorty put in MAJOR work. And yo! When I say... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! They flew in late Thursday night – and it was Indya’s [the baby sis] first flight! Ha! She’s 5years old and you can tell by the photos she is a TRIP! Little did my Mom know that I had scheduled for her a hair appointment upon their arrival. Yes, that means 11:30pm she was in the Glam Room of Couture Milan getting “dolled up.” You know how us women are, so we stayed up laughing and cutting up until the wee hours of the morning – unto which I was yanking blankets off bodies at 6AM because the Megabus left for NYC at 7AM! And we had reserved seats at the top deck! ....So it began... Here is an early morning shot of the three of us after boarding. First thing’s first, I knew in order to have the energy we needed for the busy day ahead, we HAD to eat. And eat GOOD. I took them to one of my favorite spots in the Upper West Side called Community – a food & juice restaurant. They serve incredible food and although my parents aren’t quite vegetarians (yet! I’m working on them...) the breakfast served was a HUGE HIT! They loved it.
Here is a photo of these 2 taking selfies at the table. Teenagers or nah? We hit the city! Here is my Mom posing at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, us running around Times Square, and our favorite – Coney Island! We got back to Philly pretty late as you can imagine. The next day we packed up to head to Wildwood NJ for some fun in the sun. Tell me why on our way we pass by the park and see a SLEW OF NAKED BODIES!! YES! The Naked Bike Run people met at the park by my house! Imagine how big the eyes were from these Southerners when they saw THAT! HA! We pulled over -- took photos, laughed until we hurt, and talked to some of these free spirited people. I learned that this was their 7th year at it! Only in Philly.. I swear.
We finally pulled out... Um... We left and hit the beach! Another awesome day completed. So now it’s their last day in town and I felt like I may have overdone it just a tad bit... They were tired.
We drove back to Philly to pack up and get ready for dinner on the cruise ship. We boarded at 5:30pm, was seated at our tables, and were treated like royalty. Good lookin’ Spirit of Philly! I told my Mom & Stepfather this was their Anniversary gift from me (they celebrated 7 years on August 22nd. I admire this and I admire them). We ate, danced, and made our way to the top tier of the ship where we took these incredible photos. My Stepfather told me he wanted to cry... and my Mom said that they felt like celebrities. It brought me such joy to see it all come together. God is incredible. After seeing them off late that night, I made it home where I scrolled through the ‘gram a bit and then began to prepare for my radio guests the next day. The show must go on! Thanks for tuning in you guys! I will be bringing some dope music videos, artists, and interviews your way soon too – Stay tuned and KEEP DREAMING!! Oh! Look at this cute timeline my Mom made and sent to me as a recap of our weekend together! She’s so dope...
