How Did You Determine Your Passion?
I am a firm believer that each persons senses are attached to feelings. There is a distinct feeling inside me that lets me know I’m passionate about something. The feeling of fulfillment is present when I’m in the realm of passion about my craft(s). I often tell other inspiring entrepreneurs that passion is like a tingling, burning, nervous feeling in the pit of your stomach that you just cant shake. There is an adrenaline rush that overtakes you in the height of doing what you love. Once you find what you are passionate about, your way of thinking and how you look at life instantly changes. What you do each day is no longer work, but it's your hobby, and there is no better feeling!
What Challenges Have You Had To Overcome?
In 1999, I was introduced to entrepreneurship by my mother. She single handedly start a multi-million dollar Psych Rehab Firm out of our small town house. I watched her work a full-time 9-5 and come home just to build her empire, sometimes 2-3am and had to be up by 5am to start her day all over again. Watching her go through her journey, I knew that life was for me. When she lost her company she was devastated, but she always said she wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Due to being the bread winner in my household I have always struggled with the fear of quitting my job and jumping full fledge in my business. I had a track record of being the best regional property manager ever, maxing out on bonuses, being promoted and serving on training boards developing other managers however I would always find my self being terminated from my job; some I look back on and knew I played a part with my entrepreneur behaviors on somebody else’s job and others with no good reason.o list regarding business “Work Prep I call it”. Sunday night I sit at my desk and list all task I have to complete for the week. After I have my list completed I prioritize them on my outlook calendar. This list may change from day to day however I make sure all get completed. There is nothing worse then shuffling papers and spinning wheels all day. You either fail to plan or plan to fail, I make sure I plan to succeed!
On October 3, 2017, I was terminated from my job with no cause and no explanation. This took me by total surprise. With no money saved due to me trying to fund my businesses with any extra money I had after running my household I was devastated. At that moment I knew I couldn’t give anyone the ability to determine my future or make me feel the way I felt on that day. On the morning of October 4, 2017 with $357.32 in my bank account and every bill due, I became a full time entrepreneur. October – December 2017 had to be the most challenging time of my life and marriage. We were evicted and had no where to go but my mother's house in another state, which meant up rooting my family and switching the kids school.
The day before the eviction took place I packed up my house and sat on my deck and sobbed like a baby feeling like I failed myself and my family. I began to pray and ask God how could he allow this to happen and not provide a way of escape. At that moment he spoke to me and said, “Oh but I have”! “I’m sending you to a place I can cover you”. “What you are about to endure, you will need to be covered while I work on your behalf”. I dried my tears and relocated my family to Delaware. I was at my mother’s house for two weeks where she prayed and cared for me. Once I got my marching orders, we relocated to Atlanta and i has been up ever since. So with all that being said, trusting myself and God has been my biggest challenge and I’m so happy I didn’t die in my valley!
